AIT Preceptorship
5th edition
Rome, 11–12 April 2025
The 5th AIT Preceptorship, with unconditional support from Merck, brought together 33 residents from endocrinology and metabolic disease training programmes across Italy.
Under the supervision of 8 tutors, residents worked on 4 core topics in thyroidology: hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism with a focus on complex cases, thyroid disease and pregnancy, and risk stratification for mortality and recurrence in thyroid cancer. The Preceptorship opened with a keynote lecture by Prof. Iñigo Landa on the genetics of thyroid cancer.
Divided into 4 working groups, residents prepared scientific outputs (reviews, surveys or study protocols) based on the tutors’ lectures and with the guidance of a medical writer. AIT ETS and Merck have already confirmed plans for a 6th edition.

4th edition
May 2024
The 4th Preceptorship on thyroid diseases for residents of Italian endocrinology schools ended on Saturday 25 May. The participants’ enthusiasm led AIT, the scientific lead, and Merck, which provides unconditional support, to repeat the event.
The first day featured lectures by experts. The following morning, residents, who had been asked in advance to submit a clinical case, prepared a final output with the experts, presented in the early afternoon. The event also offered social moments for young doctors from all over Italy.
3rd edition
Rome, 5–6 May 2023
The 3rd AIT Preceptorship, with unconditional support from Merck, brought together 32 residents and 12 tutors: endocrinologists, two paediatricians, a cardiologist, a geriatrician, a surgeon and an interventional radiologist.
Four topics were covered: thyroid disease and fertility, thyroid disease in the transition age, thyroid disease in the elderly, and benign thyroid nodules. Two days of intense scientific work produced reviews, surveys and study protocols.

2022 edition
Rome, 8–9 April 2022
Merck Serono, with the patronage and scientific support of AIT, launched a call for young researchers who were AIT members under 40 and active in basic, translational or clinical research on thyroid diseases. Places available: 25. The initiative focused on multidisciplinary training and collaborative project ideas.
2nd edition
Italian Thyroid Preceptorship 2020
Call for Italian researchers under 40 active in clinical and basic research on thyroid diseases, coordinated by Prof. Luca Persani with unconditional support from Merck Serono. Originally planned in Rome on 17–18 April 2020, the event was rescheduled to 16–17 October 2020.
